Question by Crissy H: Does anyone feed their dog California Natural?
My 7 month old frenchie/pug has always had a sensitive tummy. When switching to a new food, I always take a good 2 weeks to wean him over. He was on Eukanuba then Science Diet then Royal Canin then Science Diet I/D (intestinal diet – for his constant diarrhea). Any suggestions or comments on the California Natural food?

Question by mosley88: Has anyone been having recent problems with Natural Balance Duck and Potato dog food?
I gradually switched my lab to it about a month ago trying to solve some skin allergy problems. He did great on the first bag (17 lbs) so i bought a 30 lb. bag. A couple days into this bag he lost all energy and wasn’t interested in eating it at all. He just slept all day and acted ill. He even puked once. Anyone having similar issues?

My dachshund is currently on Natural Balance, and he likes it. I know it’s human-grade food, but it’s not the most convenient food for me to purchase.

When changing foods its important to do it gradually not all at once. By this i mean do half of her old food with her new food, and gradually reduce the old food and put more new food in. The stomach doesnt like a quick a change and it can cause the dog to throw up. Try this and see how she goes 
If she continues to vomit after 2 days, take your dog to see the vet might be something else going on.

According to dogfoodanalysis.com it is a Tier 3 dog food. You can probably do better but you could probably do worse.

i’m feeding my 12 week old pup the go! chicken/fruit/veggie dog food by petcurean. the closest recommended feeding portion for my pup is 2/3 cup for a 10lb pup. my pup is 4.7lbs so i’m feeding him close to 1/3 cup daily. he seems to still be hungry throughout the day. everytime he hears his food bowl, he’ll wag his tail super fast and devour his food in seconds. once he’s done, he still looks hungry. a lot of people tell me that dogs can eat and eat and eat until you take their food away and the vet told me that dogs do know when they’re full. just wondering if anyone else is feeding their dog this brand of food and see the same thing. this line from petcurean indicates that dogs can be fed 40% less because each kibble has 50% more concentrated meat protein and energy.

I don’t remember what the bag says… but I feed the same food and I give my 10lb dogs 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/3 cup in the evening. Keep in mind a puppy will need to eat more, up to twice as much.
Ironically, I love how my adult dogs are doing on the Go food, but I can’t feed it to my puppies. I’ve tried it on three different litters over the years and every single puppy has had diarrhea on it. Yet I switch the puppies to Eagle Holistic and they do great. Once they are mature I switch them to the Go and they are fine.

I think some of the Natural Balance products have been recalled…
I recommend putting her on a high quality food – like Innova, Canidae, or Timberwolf organics. Check tehir websites to see where you can buy tehm in your area. At one of my local pet stores, they have something called Dinner Party and it’s made by Halo. It’s freeze dried chicken that is ground up (looks like parmesan cheese) and you just sprinkle it on top of their food. My dogs love it!

i dont use it myself, but i have customers who swear by it! its very good for dogs with allergies n stomache problems. i myself being in the pet business for 3 years, never heard a complaint from it.

I don’t feed it but we do sell it where I work. Not many dogs seem to like it and it can give them very fishy smelling breath and gas. If you’re going to feed California Natural I’d suggest the Lamb & Rice or Chicken & Rice.
