is the diamond brand lamb and rice meal a suitable choice for a all natural dog food?

Diamond is a good food. You really just need to read the ingredients label. You want the first ingredient to be Meat, not meat meal or meat by-products. There should be no corn in the food, and preferably no wheat or soy. Wheat is ok… not the best, but no where near as bad as corn. You want omega-3 fatty acids in there, and possibly some Vitamin E. Those are good for skin and coat.

Q&A: What is your view of Diamond Naturals dog food?

Question by Cash–Rescue, Foster, Adopt!: What is your view of Diamond Naturals dog food?
This is a higher quality that I can actually afford. My parents have been buying dog food…pedigree and Iams (YUCK!) and are now willing to go higher quality. Yet, as much as I would love to feed the highest quality, we simply can’t afford it. So how do you view Diamond Naturals (NOT regular Diamond dog food)? I have 4 dogs whom I plan feeding it too. (dry kibble)

Its pretty good. I feed it!

However it does have beet pulp in it, and some think that it gives gas. I have even heard it being called a beet by products.

And it is pretty grain heavy.

But its better than 80% of the other stuff out there.

If you want the best of the best you can try taste of the wild, or orjien. Or EVO
Blue Wilderness is suppose to be one of the best you can get too.

But I honestly CANNOT afford those brands I named off. So I buy Diamond Naturals. Both of my dogs do great on it.

I have used it before with good results–there is a dog food chart floating around the internet and you can rate dog chow with it–I did the Diamond Naturals Lamb&Rice and it scored a 106 so that is pretty good as you really don’t want to get too much protein at 4 months–hope that helped

My mother feeds this to her dogs and they really seem to like it. My chihuahua is a picky eater and she likes this food as well. My mothers dogs are healthy and happy, and I think it is a good brand if you can afford it. I know many people will give you many differnet types of food and state that their brand is the best brand, but in my opinion it is like cars, or cereal. We often like what we like for no real reason. My vet told me that a good dog food is one in which the main ingredient is some form of meat, and I feed my dogs the wal-mart brand high protein formula, which has the main ingredient of beef and bone meal. the main ingredient is the first one listed in the list of ingredients. I know there are many varies of dog food that cost alot of money, but I have read alot of labels and many of them, including Iams and Pedigree cite corn or cornmeal as their main ingredient. I would reccommend Diamond if it is in your price range, otherwise I would read the labels of the food in your price range and feed the one with meat listed as the first ingredient, because wild dogs do not hunt for corn, lol. Good Luck!
