Question by jadebumbera: Our Vet sd to put our dog on low sodium diet. We found Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance food. Any thoughts?
Buddy is allergic to Eggs but nothing else. We wanted to put him on a dog food that had meats as the main ingredients and not corn or Meal products. Please advise.

I give our dogs venison & rice formula by Nature’s Recipe. It seems to agree with them & it does not contain any corn or by products, artificial ingredients, or preservatives, no added chemicals. My one dog’s allergies have subsided. I’m glad your taking an interest in your pets diet; I am an animal lover & I stay away from the commercial foods, & am going holistic, my dogs are too.

dogs natural food diet?

Question by Jillian Glasgow: dogs natural food diet?
I already asked about this before, but everyone answered that I should feed my dog ” raw foods “( i was originally planning to feed cooked food) I did a lots of research about natural dog foods. Of course I read few articles about raw food diet. My decision was no raw food. Maybe raw food is better than cooked food and maybe I know little about the benefits of raw food for dogs. but I was confused about germs or bacterias in raw meats, poor nutritional balances and the most important problem is my dog would not eat raw meat and bones. If I’m misunderstanding about raw food, please tell me how to feed my 10lb dog raw food diet.
or if you’re going to tell cooked food, please tell me about the ratio.

Im not the best at this, but i thought I’d share. Don’t worry about feeding raw foods, what do you think they eat in the wild? they sure don’t cook what they kill (that would be interesting if they did! lol) and will often eat rotting meat and not get sick. My dog catches and kills rabbits (dont judge me, it just happens) she often tries to eat them and usualy manages to eat a little, she’s fine!

Anyway sorry i couldnt answer your question!

What if I wanna feed my dog a natural diet. Meaning, I’ll make her food.?

Question by Silvia: What if I wanna feed my dog a natural diet. Meaning, I’ll make her food.?
She just doens’t like dry dog food for some reason, but she’ll eat everything else. I know I will have to provide a lot of chew toys for her teeth. But where do I start in knowing what kinds of food to give her??? Besides the vet, it’s gonna be a while until I see him. Thank you!!
I don’t want raw meat. Just food that I can prepare for her.

Natural diet is wrong for her. They’re meant to eat dog food. Chew toys won’t be able to provide her enough teeth health. A good thing is to slowly introduce dry food to her diet. Add a few to her dish, and then complement it more and more with time. She’ll eventually eat it too.

is Nutro Natural Choice dog food better for the dog or Hill’s Science Diet better?

Question by daiseychicky: is Nutro Natural Choice dog food better for the dog or Hill’s Science Diet better?

Best answer:

Answer by Jo
I think they are both about the same as far as quality and I wouldn’t personally recommend either one! Both were majorly recalled and had continued recalls. Also, I think they are substandard foods by comparison to healthier ones on the market. If I had to choose between those two only, I’d choose Science Diet.
Brands I’d recommend that weren’t recalled:
More median priced:
Nature’s Recipe- the game blends: Venison and Rice, Duck and Rice, Fish and Potato, Rabbit and Potato
or, a bit more in some places:
Canidae (if your dog has a sensitive stomach this may be a bit rich for him, but any new food intro’d has to be intro’d gradually to avoid digestive upset).
Orijen- no grains in this food, high in protein. Some breeds do better with lower protein food. This is a great brand.
Wellness- many varieties
These are some that weren’t recalled recently.

Q&A: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?

Question by Tyra Dobe: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?
The most important thing you can do is to feed you dog well from the earliest age possible.. Forget any processed foods and try feeding a natural food diet like BARF. If you want a healthier long lived pet then you can never start too early! Remember that most processed dog food canned or dry is rubbish (bordering on poison!)

My dogs diet is as follows:
(ALL HUMAN GRADE FOOD – NOT PET GRADE!)
chicken frames minced
beef mince
minced lamb liver/ beef hearts/ kidneys/tongue

some soaked ‘vets all natural complete mix’ supplement to mix with the meats.

http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/Completemix.html

I weigh it into a serving per bag it and freeze them individually
- then it is as convenient as a can of food only healthy.

For Breakfast I also give the dogs:
lamb briskit bones
chicken frames / carcasses
fresh/frozen sardines
fruit & veg – oranges / apples/ carrots/ zucchini/ berries/ blueberry/raspberry/strawberry)

Make breakfast bones/chicken frames and
for dinner the special mix from the freezer

Before I feed them I also mix in some:
Pet Pep Up probiotic supplement
GreenPet Complete supplement
Omega 3 blend of Oils

(I defrost a couple of bags in the bottom of the fridge and replace them as they are used – that way you always have fresh food ready to go!)

Feeding you dog this diet will save you money on vet bills and keep your pup healthy for the longest time possible. Bonus you also have a dog that has fresh breath / good teeth / less f*rting icon smile Q&A: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?

I know others will say that pet food is fine – but keep in mind most pet food is made by the same companies that make dog pharmiceuticals and it is in their best interest for you dog NOT to be healthy! That way they can sell you the drugs to make it better.. It is up to you!

I am interested in others ideas on this kind of feeding regime and hoping to inspire others into feeding their dogs better.

All the meats listed are RAW

It is based on the BARF Diet
BARF = Bones And Raw Food
I have 2 Dobermanns both are show dogs.

The cost of the meat is $ 1.20 (AU) per Kg. – I have to buy it in 10Kg lots so I do a 30kg mix and then freeze it for the month.. It works out much cheaper than most of those fancy dry foods.

It sounds like an alright diet to feed dogs, however if I had the money I would look into giving them a raw diet, but I haven’t fully looked into it yet.

A huge possibility why people aren’t feeding like this is because of money, I know I don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend every couple of weeks on dog food, I would like to, but I don’t and I may not be the only person out there.

My dog’s are healthy, they are a perfect weight, they have a fine silky bright coat, they all pass with flying colours for their physical with the vet during their regular checkups, so what I am feeding them appears to be working.

Question by CHARLie: Do you feed your dog, dog food diet or natural diet?
I would just like to know what all you dog owners feed your dog???. Ive done alot of studying in my life and had alot of experiance in the animal industry as a vet and other things. Personally i choose not to feed my dog, dog food. I take into consideration why people feed their dog dog food e.g finance, lifestyle. But i just want to know what your opinion is. I dont want to debate about this topic i just want to know what you think?

I think I’d love to feed my dog a raw diet, but I know I don’t have the finances or the time to dedicate to it. I do, however, give him a raw bone a couple times a week for about an hour. I feed him a high quality dog kibble and hopefully someday when I have more money I’ll be able to feed him Raw.

Natural dog food diet?

Question by Jillian Glasgow: Natural dog food diet?
I want to know the perfect ratio of meat, fish, grain, vegetables and fruits in a dog’s natural diet?

Best answer:

Answer by ilikesugar:]
About 90% of what a dog eats should be raw, meaty bones. For example, tonight, I bought an entire chicken, and gave Bruiser some raw (including bones. They soft enough without being cooked for the dog to eat them with no problem). He also gets hearts, gizards, liver, soup bones (or knuckle bones), and I’ve also given him ribs (but had to take the bone away once he had pulled the meat off of it…the bones are too hard for them to digest). I also feed whole eggs (shell and all. I just crack it to get him started), and frozen bananas and carrots for treats.

I’m just beginning at this, so I’m still learning, but Bruiser loves it, and his coat is great and his eyes are shiny!
