Would it be healthy to give a dog a fruit smoothie?

Question by phreakinhippie: Would it be healthy to give a dog a fruit smoothie?
After all the dog food contaminates my husband and I want to find alternatives to feeding them. Things like whole natural foods without preservatives and added chemicals. The fruit smoothie that we often make for ourselves contains green leafy vegitables, apples, pineapples, and banannas. We just want to know if it would be safe to share with our dogs.

Is Iams healthy naturals dog food good for my 8 month kuvasz mix?

Question by Sharon: What the best dog food? I want something natural and very healthy for my large breed dog.?
No Purina, I’ve only heard horrible things about their products from a chemist I know that works there.

Do any of the “Whole Foods” type places offer anything really healthy and tasty?
I know a chemist that MAKES the food at the Purina plant in Colorado. It is NOT a good brand. He gets it free since he works there and doesn’t allow his dogs to eat it since he knows what is in it. Very low quality product!

Purina is actually pretty good for them… But be careful, some high quality dog foods are not good for your pets.

Q&A: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?

Question by Tyra Dobe: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?
The most important thing you can do is to feed you dog well from the earliest age possible.. Forget any processed foods and try feeding a natural food diet like BARF. If you want a healthier long lived pet then you can never start too early! Remember that most processed dog food canned or dry is rubbish (bordering on poison!)

My dogs diet is as follows:
(ALL HUMAN GRADE FOOD – NOT PET GRADE!)
chicken frames minced
beef mince
minced lamb liver/ beef hearts/ kidneys/tongue

some soaked ‘vets all natural complete mix’ supplement to mix with the meats.

http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/Completemix.html

I weigh it into a serving per bag it and freeze them individually
- then it is as convenient as a can of food only healthy.

For Breakfast I also give the dogs:
lamb briskit bones
chicken frames / carcasses
fresh/frozen sardines
fruit & veg – oranges / apples/ carrots/ zucchini/ berries/ blueberry/raspberry/strawberry)

Make breakfast bones/chicken frames and
for dinner the special mix from the freezer

Before I feed them I also mix in some:
Pet Pep Up probiotic supplement
GreenPet Complete supplement
Omega 3 blend of Oils

(I defrost a couple of bags in the bottom of the fridge and replace them as they are used – that way you always have fresh food ready to go!)

Feeding you dog this diet will save you money on vet bills and keep your pup healthy for the longest time possible. Bonus you also have a dog that has fresh breath / good teeth / less f*rting icon smile Q&A: Have you considered feeding you dog a Healthy Natural Diet like BARF?

I know others will say that pet food is fine – but keep in mind most pet food is made by the same companies that make dog pharmiceuticals and it is in their best interest for you dog NOT to be healthy! That way they can sell you the drugs to make it better.. It is up to you!

I am interested in others ideas on this kind of feeding regime and hoping to inspire others into feeding their dogs better.

All the meats listed are RAW

It is based on the BARF Diet
BARF = Bones And Raw Food
I have 2 Dobermanns both are show dogs.

The cost of the meat is $ 1.20 (AU) per Kg. – I have to buy it in 10Kg lots so I do a 30kg mix and then freeze it for the month.. It works out much cheaper than most of those fancy dry foods.

It sounds like an alright diet to feed dogs, however if I had the money I would look into giving them a raw diet, but I haven’t fully looked into it yet.

A huge possibility why people aren’t feeding like this is because of money, I know I don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend every couple of weeks on dog food, I would like to, but I don’t and I may not be the only person out there.

My dog’s are healthy, they are a perfect weight, they have a fine silky bright coat, they all pass with flying colours for their physical with the vet during their regular checkups, so what I am feeding them appears to be working.

Origen is the best dog food. But I feed my dogs nutro and sometimes wellness. Where are you getting the puppy?

Healthy and afforable dog kibble recommendations?

Question by Muttlove: Healthy and afforable dog kibble recommendations?
My animals growing up always ate Iams, and they were as healthy as can be. I just adopted a puppy as my first personal pet, and from all the bad reviews on Iams, I decided to try for a healthier food. I took the puppy to Petco one day and asked an associate about healthy and affordable dog foods. He persuaded me into buying Nutro brand Natural Choice puppy kibble (Chicken Meal, Rice and Oatmeal formula). The puppy loves it and I was confident until I read that the dog food analysis site only rated it as a 2-star food.

So.. does anyone have any recommendations? I’m looking for a relatively healthy, nutritious dog food that isn’t horribly expensive.
(And sadly, I cannot find Canidae in my area)

Best answer:

Answer by Michelle
Blue….Flint River Ranch….or Solid Gold would be where i’d look for affordable but still great. Flint River is affordable and most dogs take to it without and are ok even if they normally have allergies. It’s about the same price if you have it shipped to your door, but if you want to go pick it up you’d have to look at their website and find a retailer.

Iams Healthy Naturals for Dogs, how good/bad is this food?

Question by Truther May: Iams Healthy Naturals for Dogs, how good/bad is this food?
i’m asking because http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ does not list this food, and I am curious, as thats what my dog has to eat for the week. I know Iams makes pretty crappy food, but this bag just screams “I’m healthy!”. I know there are far better choices out there, but this seemed the best choice from the grocery store aisle selection. What do you think, is it a 1 star food, or hopefully a 2 or 3 star? Check here for ingredients list x.x; http://us.iams.com/iams/en_US/jsp/IAMS_Page.jsp?pageID=PL&productID=200000
i feed him canidae all life stages or w/e. but for this week he has to eat this cuz i can’t get to the pet store across town and cant carry a huge bag home on the buss and then walk with it lol.
