Choice or Wellness Simple Solutions, trying to stop itching in Westie.
Was feeding Science Diet Natural Best. Did get good answers on
what to try, now have to decide either the Nutro or Wellness, maybe
someone that has used these brands for Westie may have my answers.

Nutro is a HORRIBLE food for any dog, *especially* one with allegies.
Wellness Simple Solutions is a good food, also any other grain free food should work too.

I think they are both about the same as far as quality and I wouldn’t personally recommend either one! Both were majorly recalled and had continued recalls. Also, I think they are substandard foods by comparison to healthier ones on the market. If I had to choose between those two only, I’d choose Science Diet.
Brands I’d recommend that weren’t recalled:
More median priced:
Nature’s Recipe- the game blends: Venison and Rice, Duck and Rice, Fish and Potato, Rabbit and Potato
or, a bit more in some places:
Canidae (if your dog has a sensitive stomach this may be a bit rich for him, but any new food intro’d has to be intro’d gradually to avoid digestive upset).
Orijen- no grains in this food, high in protein. Some breeds do better with lower protein food. This is a great brand.
Wellness- many varieties

I bought Nutro Natural Choice dog food for my dogs. I bought the small bites lamb and rice for skin and coat. I was just wondering if anyone has used this dog food, if so are you still using it and how do you like it. If you’re not still using it why did you stop?
My oldest dog has allergies, and I think it’s a food allergy and I was told to get the Nutro Natural Choice lamb and rice for her and it would help with her allergies, because it doesn’t have any by products or anything like that in it.

It is a great food but my dog suddenly decided he didnt want to eat it anymore.

I know Nutral: N.C. isn’t the best dog food out there, and since price can be a bit of a problem I know the better brands like “Taste of the Wild” and “Blue Buffalo” can be a bit expensive. I plan to switch dog foods as soon as I can for my 1 1/2 year old healthy female Pomeranian and I was wondering if Beneful is at least a better choice of food than Nutro is? If not, what is better than Nutro, but not too expensive?

beneful is pure GARBAGE
one of their fomulas doesnt even have “meat” in it.. the closest thing it had to meat was “animal fat”.

I recently moved to Miami from Arizona and my dog’s food, Nutro Natural Choice, costs 25% more here! Need to find it cheaper. I prefer to order it online, but shipping charges usually make it not very cost effective.

Question by Bottom Contributor: Does Nutro Natural Choice dog food soften the stool?
I want to give my dog the best possible dog food, so I’ve switched him back to the Nutro lamb & rice (was eating Iams for a while), but I’m noticing that when he is on the Nutro diet, his stool becomes very soft and makes it impossible to “pick up” after him. Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas on what to do? I don’t want to switch him back to a lesser dog food just because of this:( Thanks for any helpful advice!

You shouldn’t base your dog food choice on your dog’s stools. In actuality, if you wanted the best food and the “best” stools, you would switch your dogs to a raw diet.
He may have an allery to something in the Nutro, as it is not “normal” for a dog to have consistently loose stools. He may feel that he has to drink more water to compensate for the kibble. Iams isn’t the best food either, nor is anything you can buy in a regular grocery store.

I never see it recommended by anyone, yet my dog is doing better on it than any other food he has tried. I believe from the list of ingredients in it, it ranks just as high as Canidae or any of the others. Is anyone else feeding this?

My dogs didn’t do well on Canidae and Innova, and they are great foods. Just because a food is good doesn’t mean that every dog will do well on it. It’s trial and error, change foods until you find one that has fairly good ingredients that your dogs do well on.
ADDED: I just looked at the ingredient list for the Nutro Natural Choice Adult food, and it has a lot of grain in it- most likely more grain than there is meat.
ADDED: There was also a lot of Nutro Natural Choice wet foods on the recall list

I fed my dogs Royal Canin as puppies – but it’s SOOOO expensive that I’ve switched to Nutro’s Natural Choice. They’ve done well on both dog foods, but seem to like Natural Choice better.
