The Naturally Savvy Guides discuss Pet Promise brand of pet food and speak to a Holistic Vet to discuss what food is really best for our pets. www.naturallysavvy.com
If you’re looking for some natural dog food recipes or homemade dog food, this recipe from the Natural Pet Food Cookbook is a great start. Chef Jason Hill of Chef Tips puts Bandit’s Beef Stew to the test, and this dog food recipe was approved with enthusiasm by his family’s Shih Tzu puppy, Sugar. This recipe can be prepared as an organic dog food with the right ingredients. Just choose canned organic vegetables when preparing this meal. It’s also a human grade dog food, as Chef Jason Hill attests — and not bad, either! Using natural organic dog food ingredients, this special treat makes a great alternative to dry dog food such as Nutro Dog Food, Innova Dog Food, Canidae Dog Food and Pedigree Dog Food. It’s a gourmet dog food your pet will enjoy time and time again. Bone Appetit!

Question by jp: What kind of natural / holistic / organic dog foods would you recommend?
My dog currently eats beneful, its the only brand he has eaten and I want to change his food to something more healthy. He does throw up every once in a while due to him not being able to digest some of the ingredients properly. I read that beneful, pedigree, the more “well known” dog foods contain ingredients that isn’t necessarily healthy and that they are just to used as fillers. I was thinking about switching his food to Karma organic or any of these on this website – http://www.naturapet.com/. Any thoughts or other recommendations?

Question by Whitney: Reasonably priced natural or organic dog food?
I have a Weimaraner. They are prone to bloat so I don’t want to take any chances with weird ingredients. I have been feeding her Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul. Just wanted other’s opinions on what the best holistic dog food is without being outrageously expensive.

Question by ♪♥Rottie Lover♫☺: Is AvoDerm All Natural Organic Puppy Food A Good Choice For My Rottweiler Puppy?
I was looking up good puppy food brands, and I saw this one, and it’s reviews were fabulous, it’s not too expensive. What do you think about it? It sells at good pet stores. This is what it is.
If you have never fed this to your dog, or if you don’t know someone who feeds/fed this to their dog, don’t even bother to respond, because I know all I’ll get from you people who are clueless, is something like
crap food get kirkland or some other fancy expensive brand
I know you haters like bothering poor people who just want good quality dog food for a good price. Expensive foods that make dogs diarrhea are CRAP. Common now people, I need real answers!

Answer by fluffy_aliens You should really try to see if you can get a food that has meat (actually meat, no by-products or the like) in the first 2, or even better 3, ingredients. This one lists chicken, then chicken broth, then rice which makes rice effectively the 2nd ingredient (since the broth has almost no nutritional value). Looking at the kibble, they all have a grain as the second ingredient as well.
There ARE foods out there for a decent price that have meat for at least the first 2 ingredients. Just keep looking. Sorry I can’t help with brands as I’m living in Switzerland currently.
Question by Ally: Anyone used or heard of Brandons Farm organic or natural dog food?
I bought this for my puppy, chicken is the first ingredient and it is 5 star rated at dogfoodanalysis.com. I just wanted to know of anyones experience with it. Thanks.
Sorry – I must have gotten my rating wrong – at least it isn’t a 1!

Answer by junebug Actually the Brandon’s Naturals rates a 2. The Brandon Farms Organics rates 4. If you are going to go with that brand, I’d stick with the Organics.
