Dog Food Recipes

If you’re looking for some natural dog food recipes or homemade dog food, this recipe from the Natural Pet Food Cookbook is a great start. Chef Jason Hill of Chef Tips puts Bandit’s Beef Stew to the test, and this dog food recipe was approved with enthusiasm by his family’s Shih Tzu puppy, Sugar. This recipe can be prepared as an organic dog food with the right ingredients. Just choose canned organic vegetables when preparing this meal. It’s also a human grade dog food, as Chef Jason Hill attests — and not bad, either! Using natural organic dog food ingredients, this special treat makes a great alternative to dry dog food such as Nutro Dog Food, Innova Dog Food, Canidae Dog Food and Pedigree Dog Food. It’s a gourmet dog food your pet will enjoy time and time again. Bone Appetit!

http://dogs.suite101.com/article.cfm/homemade-dog-biscuits-made-easy for recipe below:
Homemade Gourmet Dog Biscuit Recipe
•12-16oz raw liver,
•1 1/2 lbs white or whole wheat flour,
•8oz Quaker oats,
•3 bouillion cubes (beef or chicken),
•Appoximately 1 cup of water,
•2 beaten eggs
Preheat your oven to 350 and grease about three baking pans, use a food processor to chop the liver finely, or you can do it by hand. Mix the flour and oats together in a bowl, crumble the bouillion cubes, add the chopped liver and eggs, then add enough water (approx 1 cup) to make the dough firm and slightly sticky. Spread the biscuit dough out with a rolling pin until it is about an inch thick, then you can use a cookie cutter dipped in flour to cut out your biscuits. Bake your treats for an hour then put them into an airtight container and refridgerate them for about two weeks. Your dog can enjoy these anytime after they have cooled, they have to be refrigerated because of the liver that is used to make them.

I will stop occasionally for fresh roadkill and grind it up with a little barley and hops, few lentils, smidgen of cayenne pepper, dose of cod liver oil, and oatmeal for a thickener. That’s about as natural as it gets for my show dogs-Akitas !

Q&A: Natural Dog Food Recipes for GSD with Allergies?

Question by Lindsey: Natural Dog Food Recipes for GSD with Allergies?
Does anyone have any recipes or a free link to recipes for dogs with allergies? My 8 month old German Shepherd is on “itching medication” right now for his allergies and they don’t seem to be working. The vet said he might have food allergies, so I was going to try out some homemade foods to make him. Please help!

    Best answer:

Answer by A Great Dane Lady
Since the allergy food is unknown, it would not be wise to just start making recipes with multiple items in it. You could very well be feeding the one thing that the dog is allergic to.
Feeding a balanced diet is as not the same for all dogs.
Try joining a yahoo group that teaches natural feeding. This is one group that teaches raw and cooked.

Another thing to look into is ALL over the net. Itchiness can be an allergic reaction to vaccines. Do some research.
