Would it be healthy to give a dog a fruit smoothie?

Question by phreakinhippie: Would it be healthy to give a dog a fruit smoothie?
After all the dog food contaminates my husband and I want to find alternatives to feeding them. Things like whole natural foods without preservatives and added chemicals. The fruit smoothie that we often make for ourselves contains green leafy vegitables, apples, pineapples, and banannas. We just want to know if it would be safe to share with our dogs.

If these were the only 3 good dog foods left in the world to feed and you HAD to feed one of them, which would you feed?

Which is the best choice and why?

Taste of the Wild

Merrick

Blue Buffalo

Natural Balance

Just wondering which is the best quailty?

I currently feed a raw diet but if I had to return to kibble and these were my choices I would feed Blue Buffalo. My dogs previously ate Blue Buffalo and had no issues with it.

However, I will admit to not doing much kibble research lately.

What kind of natural / holistic / organic dog foods would you recommend?

Question by jp: What kind of natural / holistic / organic dog foods would you recommend?
My dog currently eats beneful, its the only brand he has eaten and I want to change his food to something more healthy. He does throw up every once in a while due to him not being able to digest some of the ingredients properly. I read that beneful, pedigree, the more “well known” dog foods contain ingredients that isn’t necessarily healthy and that they are just to used as fillers. I was thinking about switching his food to Karma organic or any of these on this website – http://www.naturapet.com/. Any thoughts or other recommendations?

What would you recommend feeding a pure breed female Golden Retriever puppy?

Question by augy2kmom: What would you recommend feeding a pure breed female Golden Retriever puppy?
We just got a Golden Retriever puppy, she is a pure breed and is 8 weeks old. She has been eating Costco’s Kirkland brand dog food for the past few weeks. ( Breeder used this food) I have read that the food is middle of the road and not a bad food for the price but we would like to switch her to a good food so she doesn’t develop allergies Golden’s can get, etc. However, I want to be cost effective as well! We tired Nutro Max Natural Choice but she picks around it and will only eat the Kirkland food/grazes. When she did eat the food, she swallowed it whole and would belch after. We bought some Eukanuba large breed puppy food toda,y but now I am ready HORRIBLE reviews about it. *SIGHS* My cat eats Dick Van Dikes cat food due to allergies but he poops a lot, and so I was wondering if the puppy food would do the same? Should I try Dick Van Dikes dog food, stick with the Eukanuba or just go get a bag of Kirkland and stick with it? Help, Golden owners out their with experience or who ever….what would you recommend? Thanks!

Question by Cleo: Dog Folks, what flea stuff do you use for your dog? I would rather stick with something as…?
…natural as possible.
My little yorkie was with my mom and my grandma for the last year…long story, but now he’s back. He will be living with me in an apartment and I will walk him as needed. Up till now, he hasn’t needed any type of flea medication because he played in a yard that was well maintained and treated for fleas.

My parents are very concerned about giving a dog one of those Frontline or Advantix products because a dog we had a few years ago died right after starting one of those topical programs for fleas.

So my big question is…is there anything I can give him that won’t harm him? I read some reviews of advantix and it seemed scary. There was talk of dogs having seizures and having giant rashes/skin irritation. If the advantix/frontline stuff works without too many side effects, I would be willing to try it…I am just so scared of hurting him. I like to keep his food and life as healthy as possible. Thanks for your help.

It is very natural for me to put Frontline Plus on my dogs.

Honestly do you think there would be a multi BILLION dollar flea medication industry if “natural” worked.

I have used Frontline for years. No problems.

You do know there can be side effects to so called “natural” things as well.

despite the dog food analysis rating, you really can’t determine which one is good for your dog. I switched my dogs to evo red meat during mid 2007 because of the high 6 star rating and high protein content. My friend did also. All 6 of our dogs had sever diahrea the entire time they were on the food. My vet then recommended eagle pack. A 4star dog food according to dog food analysis because it only has 1 meat as primary ingredient, but if you read their site, you will know why. Despite the lower rating, the results of the food were undeniably better than the high ranking one. However, I still believe evo is a good premium dog food, every dog is different, so to find out which is best for your dog, do some thorough research about a well balanced diet, whether your dog has allergies, how active your dog is to determine is is best. Then select a small bag to slowly ease your dog in to see if there is any adverse effects, if not the purchase a larger bag. Some pet supply stores will even take back open bags of dog food if you are not satisfied.
